I keep food in an ex-pen for my baby while i'm at work all day but at night in his crate no. Just make sure he eats enough during the day and enough at dinner time and he'll be completely fine when he goes to bed
But definitely keep his food out during the day, mine doesn't eat enough as it is and sometimes have to feed him by hand. Congrats on your new little one!
