People who are in the manic stage of bipolar do get verbally abusive, and often feel paranoid. He has had a history of bipolar disorder and alcoholism, many people with bipolar drink in order to self-medicate. Mild cases can cause a person to be very creative, and some of his work would indicate that he is very gifted, however the down side can cause a person to want to harm himself or others. Many people with the illness don't like to take medication because it takes away their creative edge. This site gives another view, and even suggests his girlfriend may have played him, which in not usual victims of psychosis.
