I've done this at hotels and dog shows. I can understand why some hotels are not dog friendly when I see a ton of poop on the lawn at the hotels that are dog friendly.
At agility trials, the dog owners are required to pick up their dog's poop, but that isn't the case at conformation shows, or it wasn't. I will never forget being at an indoor show and someone left a huge poop on the floor and numerous people stepped in it. I became a huge mess.
I don't like cleaning up my own dog's poop, never liked mowing over it by accident and clean it up daily and always right before my yard guy mows, so you can bet I would prefer not to have to clean up after other people's dogs. Leaving poop is just filthy!
