If you have a pregnant female, and Do Not have a mentor, then talk to your vet now. They are your best source of information at this late date. But if you'd like go ahead and let your female rip off the cords, wash or not the pups, lay on them or not, that is how it is done in the wild. Can you honestly sit by and watch your female rip off a foot with the cord?, let a baby expire in it's sack?

However, as the original Poster said that wheping is not rocket science, we make it more complex than what it is. If that's the case, no questions needed to be answered.
I for one find it very difficult to assist a Backyard Breeder....only to help them in continuing bad breeding practices where there dogs continue to suffer under their enept hands.
