I guess to be honest, this hits a nerve with me, because I feel that it's SO important to consider where another person is coming from, and try to educate when you can, rather than just assume that people are doing something wrong because they are dumb, or spiteful, or selfish, or whatever. If so many people in the world are so awful, what hope is there of making this a better place?

I think it can be very satisfying to judge other people, and you have to be careful not to indulge in it too much. So yeah, that's why I'm writing a five paragraph essay on something the OP has already resolved.
