Boo boo is the best thing that ever happened to me, and I am thankful every day that I get to be his mom. I could never just hand him over and say that I just don't have time for him. When it comes to a living creature that you have committed to taking care of you make time. It especially makes me angry to hear someone say "oh, we just had a baby and don't have time to take care of a dog too" Seriously?! Do you give up your first child for adoption if you get pregnant again?!
People really need to think as long and hard about getting a dog as they do about having a child. I know so many people who get dogs for all the wrong reasons. Some treat it as practice for having a baby, some get it because the puppy was just sooo cute they had to have it, some get it because their kids want a toy, and some just want to get a purebred dog because they want everyone to know they can afford to do so. It's not right. Don't get a german shepard if you don't want to deal with shedding...guess what? They shed! Find out if anyone in your family has allergies BEFORE you bring a dog home! Don't get a yorkie if you don't want to have to brush a dog everyday! TRY DOING SOME RESEARCH BEFORE YOU CHOOSE A DOG!!!!
Sorry, I know I'm venting, but people really need to put some consideration into getting a dog so they don't end up having to get rid of it later because it doesn't fit their lifestyle. |
Great post I agree with you, if people would only do some research before buying a pet, and really be realistic with what they can offer we'd have fewer pets needing new homes.
By the way, I got a kick out of the reason you put for editing your post. "Reason: accidentally hit submit before I was finished with my rant..."
