When my 2-yr-old Kerry Blue Riley was neutered, there was definitely an "empty sac" for a while - it shrinks. No worries there. However, I'm astounded that you weren't sent home with pain meds. If he paces or can't seem to get comfortable - that's a sign of pain and he needs something for it. Terriers are notoriously pain-insensitive, so if he's in pain, it means something. Try to keep him calm (no jumping, etc.) for a week or so. Provide lots of cuddles and distractions. Best of luck!
