Itching could be the result of having the ear hair trimmed, but the head shaking makes me think water may have gotten in your pup's ears.
Use an ear cleaner with a drying agent. I use Vet Solutions, which some vets sell in their offices. Otherwise, I believe it is only available online, which doesn't do you much good because you need it quickly. Try vet offices.
