Scratching At Ears My Maddie went to the groomer for the first time today (she is 8 months old and I have previously trimmed her) and she looks adorable! She however keeps scratching at her ears and shaking her head. She never did this until after I picked her up today. The groomer did trim her ears quite a bit. The hair was very long on the top of her ears. She keeps also rubbing at her head and shaking it. Could this be because her ears feel different without all that hair? Could she have water in her ears? Could some loose hair be in there? I looked and couldn't see anything. Has anyone had their Yorkie act like that after a trip to the groomer?

Itching could be the result of having the ear hair trimmed, but the head shaking makes me think water may have gotten in your pup's ears. Use an ear cleaner with a drying agent. I use Vet Solutions, which some vets sell in their offices. Otherwise, I believe it is only available online, which doesn't do you much good because you need it quickly. Try vet offices. Glad to hear Maddie had a good grooming experience otherwise.

Thanks for the help! I'm going to give the vet a call today and see if they have something I could stop by and get for her ears.

I agree, it sounds like water in the ears, the cleaning solution should work for that. Also, did the groomer pluck ear hairs? I know that when Boo gets his ears plucked he rubs them alot, it's probably a little irritated, if you get the right cleaning solution that should help too as most have a moisturizing agent that will help with the irritation.

Oh, thanks! I called the vet today and they asked me the same question about the hair in her ears being plucked. I'm actually not 100% if they did, but they probably did. This was her very first trip to the groomer. She has an appointment with the vet tomorrow so they can check her out. I don't want to take any chances!
