They were there for the maltese national specialty being held there and it was supposed to be a dog friendly hotel. Apparently one night a few groups of people left the hotel for dinner and other guests complained about the barking. The dogs were taken from the rooms (in their crates) and removed to the basement until their owners returned, then they were asked to leave.
