We ended up unexpectedly getting paid by someone who owed us money, so we were able to pay it off instead of being billed! YAY! What a relief.
We called the breeder, but basically he told us that none of the other puppies in his litter had kennel cough, so basically we were out of luck. ARGH! I really hope that those laws take into effect soon so that other puppy mommies don't have to deal with all these vet bills right after they get their new baby.
However, the vet said that dogs can pick it up pretty much anywhere nowadays. They don't even have to be in direct contact with other dogs! He said that if a dog has it down the street, that's it's possible for another dog to contract it. Oliver hasn't been in contact with other dogs, but he has gone pretty much everywhere with us, so maybe that's how he got it? Oh well. All that matters now is getting my baby better! |
I am so glad you got Oliver to the vet and caught his kennel cough early.
Although I still bet he was incubating it when he left the breeder's, if you've taken him out he may have picked it up there. Until he has had all his shots, he shouldn't be exposed to dangerous puppy diseases. Pet stores, dog parks, common area in neighborhoods and apartment complexes all can harbor germs even if there are no dogs there at the moment.
