The calmer you are, the more your baby will sense this. If you have a partner he/she can feed the little one when you start to brush gently gently. As Maximo said. Start from bottom, section out small piece of hair. Also you can get a rat tail comb - the tail is great for gently detangling.
How is she will the nail clipping? Make sure you do the dew claws too. If they get too long they curve around and can pierce the skin.
