I think getting a shelter or rescue dog is a very wonderful thing you can do for an animal in need! I think aimals who have been in a situation like not having a home and being "alone" they are so grateful for a loving family and make the best companions!
I bet Shaffer would bond much better with someone around his age rather then a new puppy, which is going to be alot of extra work.
