Zipp, then Spike when I rescued/adopted him, was fine on our flight from Columbus OH to Atlanta then to Melbourne FL. No sedative. Total fly time was 3-4 hours. The old boy (15) had a restless moment or two probably b/c of me fussing. The airport shop owners and flight attendents were just great.
What airline are you using. Be prepared for a "sticker shock". Delta was $100 each way. Airtran and Southwest are around $70. Make sure the kennel will be w/in size limits for all the aircraft you will be flying on. I discovered that one size does not meet all the airlines b/c of the type of aircraft being used. Still bugs me, a squally munchkin flys free while my pup, who was quiet, was $100, and had to be shoved under the seat in front of me. But,, some of the best $$ I ever spent in getting the "old boy".
