Council Bluffs is located on the east banks of the MO River with a large lake close by too. I would think that any threat, large or small would indicate heartworm meds are in order.
I know that my brother & sister in law live in Spirit Lake/northeast corner of the state where winter months are harsh and have their pets on heartworm meds year round.....In visiting them there are mosquitoes....it's humid and hot in the summer.
