I am so glad to see this thread today. My little girl is 17 months and has not had a heat cycle yet. I asked the vet about this today and he said it is not unusual for a small breed female to not go into heat until over a year old but since mine is 17 months it is more likely that her first heat was "silent" with little or no symptoms. I find it hard to imagine that I missed it but I didn't really think of looking for it until she was at least 9 months so maybe it was before that.
