There is no deep frost in California, well except the Sierra Mountains. So, mosquitoes are prevelaint throughout the year. Especially where water ways are not running. They are prevelent in stagnant water. Even where water is collected in old tires, barrels, etc. If at anytime there is a gap in the heartworm meds. You will have to have your pup retested prior to putting her back on them. |
I read that the treatment is antibiotics and arsenic. Antibiotics tontreat a bacteria that lives with the worm. And then arsenic. And then the risk of a worm embolism when they start dying. Scary stuff. I'm glad my baby tested negative. I might have her tested again next year to confirm. I hate having her blood drawn. They have to draw from her jugular. Yesterday she was really clingy. She was probably traumatized from the blood draw. But it had to be done.
