I think potty schedules are the most important at first. I let mine out first thing in the morning, shortly after each feeding and right before bed. If they didn't go after a feeding, they returned to their xpen for an hour and then got another potty break.

Walk schedules are also good to have. I found that if the pup knows that they can burn off their excess energy at certain times of day, they're less likely to get into trouble around the house.
