yeah i am always leery of people who use their title to explain things lol I personally prefer an explanation of why they feel this is necessary not just I am the vet and that is that lol. I usually run from those kind of people as i feel they have something to hide. People who are good at their profession can usually explain things and are open to hearing your concerns and will review what you bring them and give you a reason of why they agree or disagree and then you as the pet owner can come to a logical decision after consulting with them on what to do with your pet. Respect is earned not granted by a title and it is earned by educating pet owners on how to better care for their pets and doing the right thing to keep them healthy which means to keep educating yourself if you are a professional and not only rely on what you learned in vet school but what is evolving passed school as medicine is ever changing. I think many do not continue educating themselves after school and become complacent in their jobs so when pet owners start to ask questions they get frustrated and cannot answer it because they simply do not know the answers.
I totallly agree that any doctor (or any intellegent person) should try and teach lay people rather than say, that's just the way it is and, as I said, our younger vet seems like he is more willing to be that way. Anyway....

Since Lexie has been feeling poorly for a couple days I opted today to take her into the vet (only the older vet was there today) and we discussed our options. Here are his thoughts - I wanted to see what you may think. He said that a biopsy would show (90% chance) whether she may CAH (or Chronic Active Hepatitis) and if it showed that, the usual form of treatment for that are steroids (most likely prednisone, I believe) and that it is very treatable if it is CAH, as opposed to MVD. Okay, this is new to me. So I will do some research on that as well; I did opt to have bloodwork done today to see how her levels are doing. Oh, also when you are treating one of your mvd dogs, what antibiotic do you prefer?? We had use Baytril on her before, but it seemed to make her a bit sick, so now are trying Metronidazole, 1/2 tab a.m. and p.m.
