I am so sorry to hear of your loss.
I know how hard it is lose a beloved furry "baby". We lost one of our kitties a few months ago and have missed her terribly every day since then. This kitty was like a "Mommy" to all the other rescued kitties we have brought into our home. It is especially hard when they are healthy one moment and then suddenly very ill. What made it even more difficult was the fact that my husband was on his way overseas on business travel and would not be home for 5 weeks. The day he left, our kitty suddenly declined further and with the help of our vet, we tried so hard to turn things around.
