Patti i'm sorry you got stuck with the new guy er vet. its very frustrating, i know.
LP and a torn cruciate can both occur from trauma, so if she was playing rough, or jumping on or off something she could have tweaked it just the right way to cause a problem. An x-ray will show a luxated patella and sometimes you can determine a cruciate tear as well by the angle the femur and tibia create.
i'd want more answers and ask to see another er vet. usually there is more than one on duty at an emergency hospital
