We have had very good success with a bell. Our bell actually came out of a game we found at Dollar General. It looks exactly like the Tell Bell.
I agree with the other poster on needing a big enough target to hit. Winnie hits it a few times to get it right. I trained her in a week. Good luck.
I googled how to train your dog to hit a bell to go potty and had good luck with this one article. I am on my iTouch otherwise id attach it. Anyways, it takes some patients as she wasnt catching on just having us put her paw to it. So i used treats and a lot of excitement. Shes still working on since we are only 8 days in but man does she slam on it when she really needs to go out. Sometimes she hits it expecting a treat but i think she figured it out after all she was getting was let outside.
