| Tell Bell for Potty Training?? I was wondering if anyone is familiar with the "Tell Bell". We were thinking about getting this to put by the door to train our 10 month old to ring it when she needs to go outside. The review says that some dogs were scared of it, but they don't list the type of dog they have. Has anyone had any success with this? Or any bell for that matter? I've included the link on amazon.com for it! Amazon.com: Tell Bell - (blue): Home & Garden Thanks, Angela |

| I just used 'jingle bells' that you would use a Christmas time. Should be able to find at any dollar or craft store. Works great for my dogs.

| I have had enormous success with the Tell Bell! I created a thread on it just the other day to mention it to others http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/tra...tell-bell.html I'll also add that I've traveled with Cooper's bell. I brought it to my mother's house and put it at her front door. He rang it to go potty. When i took a trip to Europe a few weeks ago I brought the Tell Bell to Cooper's kennel. I explained to them what it was. They said he rang it all day long, just so he could get out of his cage!

| Do you think using a desk bell will work? |

| It's tough to say. The top of the Tell Bell has a really large area that you press down to ring. A regular office bell is very small. Actually now that I think about it, Cooper rings the bell most of the time without even looking. He sometimes has to tap around the area 2 or 3 times before he hits the top of it. I think an office bell may be too difficult for them.

That is a good point. We already have the office bell so we're going to start training with that to make sure she is not afraid of it. If not, we'll go ahead and get the tell bell! Thanks!

| Good luck! Just walk her over to the bell and gently take her paw to it. She should be fine. Let me know if you need any more help.

| We have had very good success with a bell. Our bell actually came out of a game we found at Dollar General. It looks exactly like the Tell Bell. I agree with the other poster on needing a big enough target to hit. Winnie hits it a few times to get it right. I trained her in a week. Good luck. I googled how to train your dog to hit a bell to go potty and had good luck with this one article. I am on my iTouch otherwise id attach it. Anyways, it takes some patients as she wasnt catching on just having us put her paw to it. So i used treats and a lot of excitement. Shes still working on since we are only 8 days in but man does she slam on it when she really needs to go out. Sometimes she hits it expecting a treat but i think she figured it out after all she was getting was let outside. Its really nice though! Have fun! Id also look around for a cheaper bell as I did and found one in a game. |

| We used the desk bell with both Bentley and Beamer. Bentley learned real fast. At first ,we rang the bell as we went out the door with Bentley, so he got the message ,bell ringing meant going outside, in a couple days we heard this faint ring it was Bentley!he does it everytime he wants out. if we don't take him out right away, he starts hitting the bell hard !!it's so funny cuz he gets mad and just starts hitting it constantly

| We have had great success with the jingle type bells that hang from the doorknob. Before that, Lucas was a disaster at potty training. It helps if they can shake a paw/high five so they know the action already, then we just put our hand near the bell and when he went to touch it he touched the bell and we let him out. He learned it very quickly actually. Good Luck!

It was a year or so ago. We don't even have the game anymore since it wasn't very fun. We just ended up keeping the bell since we knew we'd be getting a dog in the near future. Sorry!
