I took Emma to the Vet yesterday to see if we are expecting. She has enlarged breasts, mood swings, sleeping more, and for the last two days she has been trying out her nesting skills. I thought for sure we were prego, but alas, no babies. He palpated and said he felt a little something but felt for sure it was just her intestines and not a puppy. He did tell me to still watch her over the next 7 to 10 days because if she were her belly should grow rapidly unless it is a very tiny puppy. We both feel she may be having signs of false prego.
I explained to him that Emma just turned 2 in January and this is the first time we have bred her but her heat cycles are every four months. She was in heat in December and then again in April, when her first breeding was on the 17th.Anyway to get to the point, he said that if she continues to have these abnormal heat cycles, she may never get prego. I am okay with this, but I am wondering if a dog having heat cycles every 4 months instead of twice a year is really that abnormal. Any thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated.
