I'm sorry this happened, we've had this problem with carpet before. You could see it maybe you could use the carpet from a closet to patch the problem and them replace the carpet in the closet with something as close as you can find. This way no one would notice, any carpet installer can do this for you. As for your little one sounds like a crate or confinement to a bathroom would be your best bet.
