When my boys were in HS they both had ringworm a few times from wrestling. It was just nasty and I even caught it once
It can live on hard surfaces
ie the wrestling mats if they are not taken care of properly.
He probably did have it from a puppy from his mother. I will bet he was from a pet shop/mill................
