I have one floppy eared (Smokey) and one that has his ears up (Chip). We never taped Chips ears but were told to shave the tips of his ears while he was young and they stood up on their own. Smokey came to us at 6 months and with floppy ears. I wouldn't trade his little ears for anything. He's so "off standard" it's not even funny but he's MINE and I love him. He's my 15 lb, extra light colored, floppy eared goof ball.
