You really want to get him on track and plumping out ASAP. If he's not thriving, it's not recommended to put one through the tail docking and dew claw removal until they are. Not implying that he has to be nursing on his own, but that he really must be showing a gain before any procedure should be done.
Best of luck...it's a lot of work but so worth it. He'll likely become your favorite as you bond with him with the feedings. |
Great advice. I usually don't dock until that pup reaches that 7oz range, but then most of my pups are between 4 - 5 oz when they're born and reach that weight by the time the are 3 days old.
