I graduated just a month after Saigon fell so never went into the military. I did have 2 cousins (one who left a leg in Nam), a brother and a BIL who all served.
The anti-war protests will to this day start arguments. I'm on the fence about them. I can see the good intentions and the bad execution of the anti-war sentiments. I always think back to the old saying..."the road to hell is paved with good intentions".
Some of the best war quotes I've ever seen came from Gen. William T. Sherman, the Union general. Here's a few of them..
****************************************
“It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, more vengeance, more desolation. War is hell.”
“War is cruelty. There's no use trying to reform it. The crueler it is, the sooner it will be over.”
“Every attempt to make war easy and safe will result in humiliation and disaster”
“If I had my choice I would kill every reporter in the world but I am sure we would be getting reports from hell before breakfast.” |
