I've had mine for atleast 7yrs now. I didn't take care of and it got infected. No one told me not to put alcohol and silly me did and it dried up. Put neosporing on it and you will be just fine.

Another thing to remember your body tends to reject foreing obects and might push the ring out if it does that don't try again you will be left with skin hanging.
