I used two spots and still do and Pixie is 8 months old. She now will go outside or use the pads. As long as you keep the pads in the same spot it should be fine. I wouldn't use more than 2 spots bc she will get use to it and you don't want a bunch of pads around the house. Are you using an ex-pen?
That is what I did. I bought an ex-pen from pet smart Kennel-Aire Exercise Pens - Exercise Pens - Crates & Kennels - PetSmart
I set i8t up the elongated way and put her comfy bed at one end and food, water in the middle and at the end where the gate was I put a pad tray.
