Until a few years ago, we had a second home in Anthem Arizona. The Yorkie handled the heat as long as you do not over do it, or aclimatize them to it. She loved the Swimming Pool, and her own water flotation devices, and a ski board. We took her many times to the Carefree Mountains, but I had to carry her up and down. She used to go on 3 mile walks everyday as long as it was under 85 degrees. Naturally, not in May-Sept. Just have to take it slow, and make sure you have water for them.
As far as camping, do not chain the dog to anything and leave it alone, or it will either be eaten, or stolen. Also, have to watch out for Chiggers, ticks, and some spiders that can do a lot of damage if bitten. Also snakes.
Keep your food covered, and other common sense things. Make sure they are up to date on all shots.
