this is exactly what i learned in researching it - you rest dog for 2 mos if they are still lifting then you have to get surgery but it is a two month wait and see as in small dogs the scar tissue build up acts like a tendon and they do fine at it happens in 80% of dogs and 20% have to have surgery - either way they will have arthritis surgery or not - i have seen dogs have the surgery and they are lifting leg after the surgery
