I had had the Petmate fountain in the past, but now have the Drinkwell Platinum pet fountain. I like this one better as the motor is quieter and has lasted longer. Plus, it's much easier to take apart and clean, which is especially important to me as I have issues with my hands due to arthritis and neuropathy. Molly loves drinking from the stream of water as it's cooler, filtered and oxygenated. And, it does encourage more water intake than simply having water in a bowl.
