Sorry to hear about your pups' Giardia, but it is fairly common. Like Patti posted, it clears up with meds quickly, especially if caught early. It can be difficult to diagnose because it doesn't always show up in a fecal sample.

I wouldn't worry excessively about anyone in your house getting it. I've fostered several dogs that have had Giardia (it's very common in puppymill dogs) and have yet to have anyone, dog or human catch it from one of the fosters. I always clean up the poo immediately and use a bleach/water solution.....but then I've got stained concrete floors and bleach doesn't hurt that....with carpet (if that's what you have) you might have to look for a different disinfectant.

You might want to consider an obedience class for your pup....we had a great trainer at a local Petsmart class.
