My brother has pet insurance for his German Shepherd but it is through his work. I think pet insurance can be handy for "high-risk" pets. When I say high-risk, I think that if you knowingly adopt a dog that has a history of illness then it will probably save you $$$$ in the long run if something serious arises but I guess that would be applicable to any pet since even the most healthiest pets can sometimes face serious illness later on in life.
If you have the money, I would say get pet insurance since this is a companion that you have for 10+ years and they are always going to be a factor when it comes to budgeting your expenses. I've looked up prices and it can be as low as $25 a month. Not bad IMO.
If you don't have the extra money, I would just put aside a little jar and put emergency pet money into each month so that when something does happen, you are not completely unprepared. Hope this helps you! |
