I know some do but I tend to stay with lean chicken and nothing else. I found even steak will cause problems with my 2 so it's dry food with homecooked chicken - that's all they get - maybe an occasional scrambled egg and a tiny tiny TINY bite of steak cause of the sad faces they're so good at but I always regret it.....
I think it depends on the dog and their stamina - what some can eat with no problems - others can't. But pork has always been on my list of a no no.....
I don't know if there's data to back up what I just said about pork but I'd rather not take a chance and again - that's just my personal feelings...it can be so hard not to share
edited to add - sometimes just a lick of something makes them happy so that's the way I handle depriving them of certain foods..... |
Wow. I agree with you 100% about everything you said.

I refuse to give my dog steak too because their arteries are so small and the last thing I want is for them to get clogged. I do the steamed chicken too but with my girl's puppy kibble. My girl mainly just goes for the chicken (at least she did in the beginning). I'm a bit worried though because I don't want her just eating steamed chicken. That alone doesn't seem to be nutritionally balanced IMO. Don't you agree?
I've tried steamed veggies but she won't touch them (everything from carrots to green beans). She doesn't like sweet potatoes either. So, I may just give up with the homecooking.

She'll have a bit of yogurt as a treat though. Most of the time I have to hand feed her the kibble so she eats it. She's not really that big on it.
I'm thinking of trying a different kibble and have ordered some trial sizes of Artemis, Royal Canine and Merrick which I can use with the chicken. Hopefully she'll eat both the kibble and chicken or I'm also thinking of trying pre-made raw - Primal. Heard good things about it and I think it may be the healthiest in comparison to the steamed chicken and kibble. I'm not sure if the chicken is whats causing her to ignore her kibble and just don't want her to eat steamed chicken only. This dog food really is trial and error!!
