I would draw a distinction here...
Blaming or bullying someone simply for the sake of their disability or difference is without a doubt wrong and uncalled for. In that regard I completely agree with you
However when one chooses to bring up those types of things in the context of explaining, justifying, rationalizing, or legitimizing other behaviors - particularly ones that have had extreme consequences (there
were fatalities...) that is not going to garner much empathy, or respect. IMO
