It's a much better fit for us, and easier to move around the house. If only potty training could be as easy as that, lol. Was nice to save the $90 on the crate and $26 for the stuff we put underneath it (think it was called wainscotting). My Visa is happier, lol.
Thanks so much for everyone's advice! I feel so stupid when it comes to puppies, so I'll likely have more questions in the months to come. Nice to know I can come and learn from those with so much more experience than I have. |
I'm so glad the crate is working out for you. This may apply to other breeds, but when I was researching the Yorkie breed a crate was recommended as they like small confined places to rest/sleep or just to escape the noise that may be going on around them. The crate provides a safe haven for them and they usually take to it rather quickly. Another thing you might want to think about during the winter months or if you keep your A.C. pretty cool in the summer, is a dog heating pad - it's made of hard plastic and the cord is wrapped with a non-chewable matieral and it only gets warm - never hot. Both of my yorkies LOVE it and I just leave them on 24-7. It take a couple of hours to reach the warm mode and then it will provide continuous warmth. I cover the pad with the fleece crate pad; check it out if you have a chance, you won't be sorry.
I agree with the other posts here about removing the water or curtailing their water intake as bed time approaches. This will enable them to hold their bladder longer and make it through the night without having to wake you up.
