Unfortunately, lots of rescues aren't really rescues, they are working with breeders to sell dogs. Some breeders have found it's easier to sell dogs if posing as a rescue, and the dogs are sold "as is", which leaves the breeders off the hook. Most rescues don't have that many puppies, although occasionally it's possible, if a puppy mill has been busted, but the rescue should be able to tell you of the bust and where it was located, these things usually make the news so it would be easy to verify it. One of the ways to tell if it's a legitamte rescue is to check them out here,
GuideStar nonprofit reports and Forms 990 for donors, grantmakers and businesses. Also, were they very picky on choosing your home, did they want references, or did they just "act" picky? Another clue is did they spay neuter first? Legitimate rescues always do a spay and neuter or insist you do it. Can't say if your dog is a mix, he's really cute, and I hope he's healthy!
