The average (varies between dogs) is one ounce of water per pound of body weight per day. This is just a rough estimate and would apply to dogs eating dry food. It sounds like he is drinking much more than that and I'd be very concerned at this point.

I agree, this isn't normal, something is wrong here.
Also, aqueous18, what do you mean extreme breath issues? Is he teething? Or do you mean "sweet" breath (again, thinking diabetes here)?
