They get the tear stains pretty bad. There are products that help with the staining. Talk to someone who has a Maltese and save yourself a lot of money on the products that DON'T work. Their feet turn orangish-brown if they lick them. There is "whitening" shampoos to use on them also. If you want a half decent long coat, you will have to do a lot of brushing. Like any white dog, it will take a lot of maintenance if you plan on them spending time outside. They have no idea that they are white and are supposed to stay that way
