I have a 13 year old African grey named Jesse that I adopted as a baby in 1997. He is so smart, he knows about 200 words that he uses appropriately and he sings a lot of songs. He really likes "Who Let the Dogs Out". I can't let him out in the same room as the dogs, he likes them but he is afraid of them and if he flies or falls off his cage, they will chase him. I also have a really old White-front Amazon that I adopted from a pet store after she had lived there in a really small cage for close to 20 years. I have had her for 15 years now. She has only bonded to me, she hates all the rest of the family, she is not really social but at least she has got to live in a home where she is loved for her golden years. Until you live with birds, it is really hard to imagine how smart they are. I really enjoy my birds but I may have to place them with my son, as I have really bad asthma and all the dust has really been bothering me for the last couple of years. Every time I go into the bird room to vacuum, I end up having a bad asthma attack and a hard time breathing for a couple of days. Birds are great, but sadly, they can cause some health problems for the owners, if you are susceptible to lung problems.
