Some may give the pup shots 2 weeks apart instead. I think I had read that. It isn't really standard though.
It isn't the number of rounds that is important. It is the date of start and stop that is. A pup that starts at 6 weeks (way too young) will need at least 4 sets to end up at 16 weeks (if they are given four weeks apart). A very popular schedule is 8, 12, and 16 weeks. Research is showing that ending at 18 weeks is better. Starting later than 6 weeks, esp. for a small dog is a good idea. I like 10, 14, and 18 weeks. Then maybe rabies at 16 weeks (which I'd beg vet to put off til 6 months...). Even two sets at, say, 14 and 18 weeks would probably be just fine as long as pup could be protected that long by owner. Since he is older now, it is probably possible to just give one more. I'd be nervous about doing that, but maybe just titer after?
