So sorry to hear your friend backed out. I can completely understand your concern. Remy usually stays with family when I travel, and he can not come along. It sounds like that is not an option for you for this trip either...
I would be very hesitant to board him at a kennel or vet... my ultimate fallback plan for an overnight sitter is my groomer. She dog sits in her own home, and watches 3 other yorkies on occasion. I've never actually had to use her, but I have had discussions with her about watching him, if in the event, it ever became necessary. Do you use one specific groomer that you really trust? If so, you may want to reach out to him / her to see if they pet-sit, or know someone who will.
