I was walking Ringo and Lucy on a trail this evening. There was no one else around when all of a sudden, two, unknown, big dogs came running out of a field toward us. I think they were 'bird dogs' or 'coon hounds' because of the howling/braying like sound they were making.

I quickly picked up Lucy (sorry Ringo!) cause she's 4 lbs and Ringo is my 15 lb Westie. I was yelling at the dogs to Go Home and Shoo and they were circling all around me and jumping up to where I was holding Lucy. Every time she would growl. This went on for about 5 minutes; there was no one around at all.

Finally I started yelling to PLEASE GET YOUR DOGS thinking they might belong to one of the houses across the river. I was terrified that they were going to hurt Lucy OR that Ringo would go off on them and they would hurt him.

I have to give Ringo so much credit; normally he is very reactive . . . but he stayed calm and cool and just kept walking forward with me. He didn't bark, growl, or try to attack them. If he had, the situation could have easily gotten out of control because they were three times his size.

Finally, a man and little girl came and started calling the dogs away.

I am DEFINITELY getting me some pepper spray! And we do have a leash law in our county. And the sign on the trail clearly says all dogs must be leashed.
