Wow...doesn't sound like a very healthy friendship.
I agree with you one one point though--I don't think that she should be passing her fears on to her kids. I'm deathly afraid of any flying, stinging bee-like insect, but I really try to avoid them so my kid doesn't pick up on my fear. But, then again, if one of my "friends" told me that was the 'stupidest thing they ever heard' and then criticized what I did with MY kids....well, lets just say we wouldn't be "friends" for long.
