In my experience it's changed on me at different times, with the anal glands being perfectly fine.
If you'd have burst the glands, you'd have known by now. But, if you're concerned of possible infection (which it can happen), have your vet prescribe Panalog (great antibiotic and I use it for everything)......it comes with a very narrow applicator that you can insert, the effect is almost immediate.
