This has happened to so many people. Remember, some dogs are genetically small and healthy; good breeders occasionally have dogs that are under the 4 pound mark, but some breeders actually attempt to breed for tinies, and some of the things that they do can put mother and puppies health at risk. A puppy with liver shunt, for example, may stay under three pounds, but this is because it's a sick dog. Dogs under 4 pounds are at more risk for accidents, and knee and teeth problems. Don't buy from a one-trait breeder, buy from a breeder who understands why breeding to standard is important, you are more likely to get a healthy dog.
