I agree...and also food. Have him feed her as much as possible.
Oh...and one other thing. I would advise him not to sneak up on her and grab her. Even though he is loving on her, this may be frightening her more. Suggest that he sit on the floor and let her come to him in her own time.....even if he has to use a treat to get her there.
